John F. O'Brien

John F. O'Brien served on the New York Court of Appeals from 1927 to 1934.
John Francis O'Brien was born June 13, 1874 at Watertown, NY, the son of New York politician Denis O'Brien[1]. O'Brien graduated from Georgetown College (now part of Georgetown University) in 1896, and from New York Law School in 1898[2]. He served as Assistant Corporation Council for New York City. When Benjamin N. Cardozo was appointed Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals in 1927, O'Brien was appointed Associate Judge to replace him[3]. O'Brien was subsequently re-elected in 1927 and died in office, December 25, 1939. Following his death, Albert Conway was appointed by the Governor to full the reminder of his term.
