John DiResta is a former police officer turned comedian who had his short lived UPN series called DiResta from 1998-1999. He has appeared in several films, including Miss Congeniality and its sequel, Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous. In 2004 he got a new show on FX called Trash for Crash where he and he's brother Jimmy DiResta went around buying or finding cheap garbage. Jimmy would build whatever was needed and John would be basically the wise guy cracking jokes. It lasted one season.
Currently, he co-hosts a show with his brother on HGTV called Hammered with John and Jimmy DiResta premiering Sept. 17, 2006. Jimmy DiResta, an inventor and carpenter, builds intricate projects while John makes jokes.
John will star in a Comedy Central show American Body Shop starting in 2007.
John grew up in the Five Towns area of Long Island, with 2 brothers and 1 sister and graduated from Hewlett High School in 1988. Several years ago, he was inducted into their Hall of Fame.
There is a freelance comedian working in the midwest that goes by the name Diresta (pronounced "Dirr-Restaa"). He has worked venues in Madison, Iowa City and Duluth to modest fanfare.
