[edit] Biography

He was the composer for many successful family and comedic films of the 1990s and 2000s, such as Hocus Pocus (1993), Liar Liar (1997), The Emperor's New Groove (2000), The Princess Diaries (2001) Spy Kids 1 & 2 (2001 and 2002), Elf (2003), Bruce Almighty (2003), The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004), Chicken Little (2005), and Barnyard (2006).

Debney is most widely known for his versatile style of film scoring, which can be seen in 2004 when he composed the dramatic and daunting music to Mel Gibson's highly controversial Passion of the Christ, and, in the same year scored two Garry Marshall family films, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, and Raising Helen.

The Passion of the Christ (2004) is probably the most universally well known project Debney has had in his entire career, and because of his excellent dramatic score, he received his first academy award nomination in 2005.

He has been typically typecast in family and comedic films because of the numerous ones he has scored throughout his career, but he is also known for his popular action adventure scores, such as Zathura (2005) and Scorpion King (2002), and dramatic works, such as Duma (2005), Dragonfly (2002),

One of Debney's most well known and popular works among film score fans is his bombastic and complex Cutthroat Island (1995) score, in which Debney provided the movie with one of the most highly acclaimed film scores of the 1990s, which many now consider to be a classic in the history of film scoring.
