John Davis an American and seal hunter who claimed to have set foot on Antarctica on February 7, 1821. Historians dispute his claim.
He was born in Surrey, England in 1784 and was never married. He joined the Merchant Service when he was 16 years old in 1800. He travelled to Antarctica seven times, working most of his life as a navigator.
