John Cuthbert Hedley

Bishop John Cuthbert Hedley was born at Morpeth in 1838, died 11 November 1915. He was educated at Ampleforth. A member of the Benedictine order he succeded bishop Brown as bishop of Newport and Menevia, subsequently just of Newport. Belmont Abbey in Herefordshire served as cathedral.(Shortly after his death the diocese became the Archdiocese of Cardiff). He was a well-known writer.
