John Crichton-Stuart, 2nd Marquess of Bute

John Crichton-Stuart, 2nd Marquess of Bute KT FRS (10 August 1793 – 18 March 1848) was the son of John Crichton-Stuart, Baron Mount Stuart and Elizabeth McDouall (daughter of Patrick McDouall, 6th Earl of Dumfries). He was the creator of modern Cardiff, building Cardiff docks.
He married, firstly, Maria North (daughter of George North, 3rd Earl of Guildford) on 29 July 1818. Maria North was the granddaugther of Lord North.
He was created a Knight of the Thistle in 1843 and his portrait was painted by Henry Raeburn.
He married, secondly, Sophia Rawdon-Hastings (daughter of Francis Rawdon-Hastings, 1st Marquess of Hastings) on 10 April 1845 and had one child:
