John Edward Chamberlin (born November 6th, 1963) is an American painter and sculptor. One of the most recognized figures in modern day art, he is best known as the founder of emotivism. In Emotivist Art, the artist expresses emotions thru the use of form and color. The artists that paint in this style are more concerned with having their paintings express a feeling than in making the painting look exactly like what they were painting.
Chamberlin's painting titled "Lovers" faithfully represents the Emotivist style. Brilliant colors frame the embracing lovers as they are lost in a romantic kiss. The sharp angular lines of the faces and arms remind us of the awkwardness love while the tenderness of the kiss and embrace remind us of how much we long for love.
The influences of Marc Chagall and Jiang Tie Feng can be seen in his work. Notably, "Rhythms of Love" depicts an emotional convergence of energy and love.
