John Carter Brown Library

The John Carter Brown Library is an independently funded research library of the humanities located on the campus of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. It specializes in printed materials relating to the history of the Americas from ca. 1450 to ca. 1821. The Library was established as a public institution on 17 May 1904, when its building on the campus of Brown University was first opened for use. The collection dates back to 1846, when its collector, John Carter Brown, began to systematically develop his collection.
