[edit] History
The history of John Carroll Catholic High School dates back to 1916, when the original St. Anastasia School building at Tenth Street and Orange Avenue was erected. During the years 1919-1924, the building was used by the Saint Lucie County School System. Formally opened by the Sisters of Saint Dominic in 1926, the school offered grades one through eight with an enrollment of 52 students. The first year of high school was added in 1932, followed by the addition of a grade level each subsequent year, culminating in the first graduating class of five students in 1936. With the relocating of the elementary grades to the present site on Thirty-third Street in 1961, the high school opened its doors to students from Sebastian to Stuart and was appropriately re-named Central Catholic High School. In 1965, a new high school was built on the present Delaware Avenue site adjoining the grade school and named in dedication of Pope John XXIII and Bishop Coleman Carroll, Bishop of the Diocese at the time. Through the direction of the Right Reverend Monsignor Michael Beerhalter, the new John Carroll Catholic High School continued with its growth in size and course offerings.
