From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
John Joseph Carona (born 14 December 1955)[1] is a Republican member of the Texas Senate representing the 16th District.
First elected to the Texas Legislature in 1990, Carona is now in his fourth term in the Texas State Senate, representing District 16 in Dallas County. His current senate term runs through the end of the Eightieth Texas Legislature in 2009. Previously, Carona was elected to three terms in the Texas House of Representatives.
Carona serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Transportation & Homeland Security and as a member of the Senate Criminal Justice, Health and Human Services, and Jurisprudence committees.
Carona has been a resident of East Dallas since early childhood. He was educated in the Dallas Independent School District, graduating from Bryan Adams High School. He received bachelors of business administration degrees in insurance and real estate from The University of Texas at Austin in 1978 and currently serves as president of a Dallas-based, national real estate management firm.
Though it is fairly unusual for a Texas legislator to involve himself in local politics, Carona was visible in a recent Dallas Independent School District election where he supported failed candidate Lois Parrott with an endorsement letter.[2]
Carona - a real estate broker, a homeowner association management company owner, and an active CAI lobby group member shapes Texas laws for the homeowner association industry. The legislation he helped write for CAI foreclosure lawyers has been very profitable for his real estate business - his website states that his management company is now the largest in America Senator John Carona - homeowner associations
