John Carlisle Kilgo

John Carlisle Kilgo (1861-1922) served as president of Trinity College, the predecessor of Duke University, from 1894 to 1910. Kilgo was previously a preacher and a financial agent of Wofford College. His presidency is notable for the 1903 Bassett Affair, wherein the university defended academic freedom.[1]
