John C. Bravman

Professor John C. Bravman serves as Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, Senior Associate Dean for Student Affairs for the School of Engineering, and Bing Centennial Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Stanford University.

Professor Bravman earned his bachelor's ('79), master's ('81) and Ph.D. ('84) degrees from Stanford in materials science and engineering. In recognition of teaching excellence, Professor Bravman has received several awards, including the Gores Award, Stanford University's highest honor for teaching. He has been a freshman adviser or resident fellow every year for the past 19 years. In his spare time, Professor Bravman enjoys photography, cooking, and discussing politics and economics.

Professor Bravman is also Dean of the Freshman-Sophomore College at Stanford University, and is beloved by its staff and residents.
