John Brantley IV an American football quarterback for the University of Florida. Brantley is expected to fight for the position of back up quarterback, behind returning sophomore Tim Tebow, with Bryan Weggener and Cameron Newton. He was a highly sought after recruit from Ocala, Florida, originally committing to Texas but then choosing Florida. He was the 2006 Florida Gatorade Player of the Year and was judged a four star recruit by scout.com.[1]

Brantley is a polished, poised passer. He has nice size, a very live arm, is smart guy and plays with a lot of confidence. He is considered a pocket passer, with his moblilty considered an area for improvement.[1] He is a very good play-action passer and deep-ball thrower. Although he doesn't possess elite arm strength, his timing and touch downfield set him apart.
As a sophmore Brantley threw for 1,201 yards, 17 touchdowns and 1 interception, while sharing time with senior Seth Varnadore. In his junior year he threw for 2,835 yards, 41 touchdowns and 5 interceptions, leading Trinity Catholic to the Florida Class 2B state title.

After a trip to Austin to see the University of Texas it appeared that he would commit to the Longhorns. In a later interview with FloridaFB.com Brantley reiterated his commitment to Texas stating that he felt it was "a real special thing to be headed out there (Texas)."
The other schools on Brantley's shortlist included Alabama, Louisville, Oklahoma and Florida.[2]
In December of 2006 Rivals.com reported that Brantley would follow in the footsteps of his father and uncle and enroll in the University of Florida. He later signed his letter of intent and will enroll in Gainesville in 2007.
