John Beyer (b. 1948) is the director of mediawatch-uk, a lobby group in the United Kingdom. He joined the group in 1976, when it was known as the National Viewers' and Listeners' Association, headed by Mary Whitehouse. John became director of the NVALA in 1994, when Mary Whitehouse retired.

[edit] TV Show Appearances

John Beyer has appeared on several TV shows to comment on items relating to censorship and decency. On his appearance on X-Rated: The TV They Tried to Ban, he was asked to comment on The Black and White Minstrel Show. While he appears to have been asked this question out of turn, his usually vociferous stance on contentious shows was not present when commenting on that particular show. It should be pointed out that the minstrel show did not include any sexual or religious overtones. It did feature white performers mimicing afro-caribbean performers by painting their faces black.

John has also appeared on the show The Secret Life Of Brian, where his stance was to condemn the subject of the film in question, Monty Python's Life of Brian, as blasphemous. As part of his comments he suggested that he did not have the resources to make a film lampooning Eric Idle.[1].
