John Barnes is a sports journalist for BBC Scotland, regularly reporting for TV's Sportscene and BBC Radio Scotland's Sportsound.

He was famously attacked by then Dundee United F.C. chairman, Jim McLean during an interview. Although not directly broadcast on Sportscene, noises coming from behind the camera were heard during the live Saturday afternoon edition of the programme. McLean later admitted he had struck Barnes and apologized.
