John Banister (scientist)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

John Banister (16501692) was an English clergyman and scientist. He was a student of natural history, particularly botany, and entomology. He emigrated to Virginia and published many papers on the Natural History of Virginia. Banisteria L. malpighiaceae was dedicated to him. B. caapi (also known as Ayahuasca or Yage) was also given the Banister name because it resembled B. malpighiaceae.
