John Baker, Jr. (June 10, 1935 in Raleigh, North Carolina) was an American football player in the late 1950s and 1960s. He graduated from North Carolina Central University in 1958 and was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the fifth round of the same year.

He played in the NFL for 12 years, playing for the Rams, the Detroit Lions and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame in 1972.

After he retired from the NFL, he worked for then-U.S. Senator Robert Morgan on the state Parole Commission. In 1978, Baker ran for sheriff of Wake County, North Carolina and won, a position he served for 24 years.
