John A. Tory

John A. Tory (born 1930) is a Toronto lawyer and corporate executive. He is the president of Thomson Investments Limited and was a friend and financial advisor of the late media magnate Ken Thomson for fifty years and continues to serve on the board of the Thomson Corporation, the US based electronic information company controlled by the Thomson family. He is also a close friend of media magnate Ted Rogers and has served on the board of directors of Rogers Communications since 1979.
Tory was educated at University of Toronto Schools and the University of Toronto from which he earned his law degree in 1954. Together with his twin brother James, he entered the practice of law, founding the firm of Tory, Tory, Deslauriers (now Torys LLP) and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1965.
He is the father of Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario leader John H. Tory.[1]
