Johann Hiller

Johann Adam Hiller (December 25, 1728 – June 16, 1804) was a German composer regarded as the creator of the Singspiel comic opera form. He collaborated with German poet Christian Felix Weisse on many of his operas. He was a teacher who encouraged a musical education for women, his pupils including Elisabeth Mara and Corona Schröter.
hiller was born in Wendisch-Ossig near Görlitz. From 1781-1785 he was conductor of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. He died in Leipzig.
He is not related to the composer and conductor Ferdinand Hiller.
