Johann Evangelist Haydn
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Johann Evangelist Haydn (December 23, 1743 — May 10, 1805), was a tenor singer of the classical era; the younger brother of the composers Joseph Haydn and Michael Haydn.
He was the eleventh child of Mathias Haydn and Anna Maria Koller Haydn (Joseph was second, and Michael sixth). He sang for a long time in the chapel of Joseph Haydn's patrons, the Esterházy family. "Hansl" Haydn, as he was known to his brothers, was apparently not a very accomplished singer of his own account, and was kept in the employ of the Eszterházys as a favor to his illustrious older brother Joseph, who served the Eszterházys as Kapellmeister (music director).
