I'm not sure about this being a self-portrait. In the 1991 Dandy Annual, the Nutty Editor and Sub visit 'Mr Artist' for tips on how to draw Bananaman. Despite not being named, there's a sign with the letters 'JKG' (John K. Geering?) on his house, but he looks completely different to this strip, even though they were both drawn by Geering.
