Joey Starr

Joey Starr (alias Jaguar Gorgone or Double R) (real name Didier Morville, born October 27, 1967) is a French rapper of Martinican origin, from Saint-Denis. He co-founded the famous french rap group Suprême NTM in 1989 along with Kool Shen. Unfortunately his reputation as a rebellious and violent man tend to eclipse his obvious talents as a rapper and he finds himself in the news more usually for the wrong reasons. His flow, powerful and polished, has a distinct ragga sound to it - and alongside his particularly distinctive appearance - permits him to stand out from the crowd in almost every way.

Joey Starr had a clearly difficult upbringing and early life. He lived with a violent father and for some time was forced to live virtually as a drifter. In fact, after the first release of NTM, he was unable to cash his cheque because he had no fixed address. You can't really talk about Joey Starr without paying attention to Supreme NTM and the foundation of the notoriously popular rap group in 1989. He first met co-founder Kool Shen in 1983. Towards the end of 1999 they both parted company to begin their respective solo interests. Kool Shen went on to IV My People and Joey went on to B.O.S.S (Boss Of Scandalz Strategyz). Recently, in May 2006 he has gone on to co-write a biography entitled "Mauvaise Réputation" (Bad Reputation) with Phillipe Manoeuvre. In october 2006, he released the album "Gare au Jaguarr". The album's title was a tribute to George Brassens and his song "Le gorille".
Politically, he is a supporter of the communist Olivier Besancenot[citation needed].

Joey Starr have been condemned several times by the French justice for aggravated assault and for illegal possession of fire arms.
In February 2001, he was arrested by the police, who upon searching his home found cocaine and weapons. He was sentenced to one month in prison and levied a fine of 100,000 francs.
In an unrelated incident he was condemned for assault against a flight attendant.
