Joey Belladonna (born Joseph Bellardini on October 13, 1960 in Oswego, New York), was the second and best known singer for the heavy metal band Anthrax.

Joey Belladonna was the lead singer of Anthrax from 1985 to 1992, and was considered part of the classic-lineup (featuring himself, Spitz, Ian, Bello and Benante), which would reunite and tour during 2005 and 2007. His voice was featured on over 10 albums and sold 8 million records worldwide. During that time he shared the stage with bands such as Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, KISS, Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath, Slayer, Alice in Chains, Dio, Public Enemy, Living Colour, Primus, Mötley Crüe, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, Testament, Overkill, Exodus, Helloween, and many others. Also during this time Joey starred in the underground cult classic "Pledge Night", and sang the National Anthem at Madison Square Garden.

While Joey was with Anthrax, the band was nominated for three Grammys, and he was voted #1 metal singer two years in a row in Metal Forces Magazine.

In the mid to late nineties Joey Belladonna released his first two albums and has continued writing new material. Recently, work has begun on the new Belladonna album. Joey will collaborate with some new faces on this new album as well as other projects in the future.

[edit] Notes

  • He was fired from the band to be replaced by singer John Bush, but has recently rejoined the original "Among The Living" line-up for a couple of world tours during 2005 and 2007, but now Joey has left Anthrax once again.
  • Belladonna made his film debut as the character Sid Snyder in the 1988 horror film Pledge Night. Sid Snyder is the killer in the film who is deformed by acid as part of hazing tragedy. Belladonna only plays the pre-deformation version of the character.
