The Joetsu Line (上越線 Jōetsu-sen?) is a major rail line in Japan. Part of the JR East system, it runs from Takasaki Station in Takasaki, Gunma Prefecture, to Miyauchi Station in Nagaoka, Niigata Prefecture, linking the northwestern Kantō region and the Sea of Japan coast of the Chubu region.

Before the opening of Jōetsu Shinkansen in 1982, the Joetsu Line operated frequent service of express trains connecting Tokyo and Niigata. Now the line is dominated by local and freight trains.

The 2004 Chuetsu Earthquake seriously damaged the Joetsu Line, causing JR East to close it for about two months.
