Joel Reuben Madden (born March 11, 1979) is the lead vocalist for the band Good Charlotte and identical twin brother of guitarist Benji Madden.

Joel Reuben Combs was born in Waldorf, Maryland. He attended La Plata High School in La Plata, Maryland. Madden has a twin brother Benji, an older brother named Josh, who is a DJ, and a younger sister named Sarah who is also in a band called Her Daily Obsession. During his teens, he and his twin brother changed their names from their father's surname 'Combs' to their mother's maiden name 'Madden' because their father walked out on them on Christmas Eve.
Good Charlotte was formed around 1996. The band became somewhat successful in 2000 when their first self titled album "Good Charlotte" was released. This was followed up in 2002 by "The Young and the Hopeless", which brought the group into the mainstream. Their next album "The Chronicles of Life and Death" wasn't as commercially successful. Their next album, "Good Morning Revival", was released on March 27, 2007; it includes the single "The River" featuring M. Shadows and Synyster Gates from Avenged Sevenfold.

Madden dated singer-actress Hilary Duff for 2 ½ years, but their relationship ended in mid-November 2006. He is currently seeing The Simple Life's Nicole Richie.[1]
