Joe Micheletti (born on October 24, 1954 in International Falls, Minnesota) is a hockey analyst and reporter, and a former NHL and WHA defenseman.

[edit] College and professional career

Micheletti played college hockey for the legendary Herb Brooks at the University of Minnesota, where he was a member of the 1974 and 1976 national championship teams. He broke team records set by Lou Nanne in both assists and points in his senior year,[1] before signing his first professional contract with the Calgary Cowboys.

As a professional, Joe played in 142 WHA games, mainly with the Edmonton Oilers, totalling 31 goals and 70 assists. He joined the NHL's St. Louis Blues for the 1979-80 season and later concluded his career with the Colorado Rockies. His NHL career totals were 11-60-71 in 158 games.

[edit] Broadcasting career

Over the years, he has worked as a sideline reporter for Fox and ABC's NHL broadcasts, and currently holds that same distinction for NBC. Micheletti worked the 1994 Winter Olympics with Jiggs McDonald for TNT and also worked the 1998 Winter Olympics for CBS. He also covered hockey for NBC during the 2002 Winter Olympics and 2006 Winter Olympics, paired mainly with Kenny Albert.

Then he started working for the New York Islanders. He was known there as "Mighty Joe" for his brash knowledge of the game. He then switched sides from FSN to MSG to work for the Rangers.

In September 2006, Micheletti was officially named as a replacement for New York Rangers color commentator John Davidson. He is partnered with long-time Ranger voice Sam Rosen on MSG Network broadcasts. Before joining the Rangers, Micheletti was a broadcaster with the St. Louis Blues where he was originally partnered with the legendary Dan Kelly and later with the New York Islanders, where he worked with Howie Rose.
