Joe Carveth

Joseph Gordon "Joe" Carveth (Born March 21, 1918 in Regina, Saskatchewan - died August 15, 1985) is a former professional hockey player in the NHL.

Joe Carveth first played in the NHL in 1941, playing 19 games for the Detroit Red Wings. In 1942 He split the season between Detroit and the Indianapolis Capitols of the AHL. In 1943 His Career took off when he played 43 games for Detroit and won His 1st Stanley Cup championship. He would play 3 more season for the Red Wings before being traded to the Boston Bruins for Roy Conacher in August, 1946. He played 2 years for Boston. After that He was traded to the Montreal Canadiens for Jim Peters and John Quilty on December 16, 1947. Carveth played 3 years for Montreal before being traded back to the Detroit Red Wings for Calum MacKay on November 11, 1949. His value to the Red Wings increased in the 1950 playoffs when Star forward Gordie Howe was lost to a serious eye injury. Carveth helped fill the breach and the Wings won their first Stanley Cup since he was last victorious in 1943.
Carveth was demoted the following year, and although crushed he soldiered on in the minors before retiring in 1954.
