Joe Barboza

Joseph "The Animal" Barboza (d. 1976) was an American mobster, hit man, and former boxer from East Boston, Massachusetts during the 1960s. Although of Portuguese descent, Barboza worked for the Italian Mafia or La Cosa Nostra.

An enforcer for the New England Mafia's Patriarca crime family, Barboza turned FBI informant while imprisoned for murder, and eventually testified against Raymond Patriarca, Sr. before entering the Witness Protection Program. Relocated to California, Barboza was beaten to death by mob assassin J.R. Russo in San Francisco.
