Admiral Sir Jock Slater, GCB, LVO, DL (born 27 March 1938), educated at Sedbergh School.

Sir Jock Slater served in the Royal Navy from 1956-1998, retiring as First Sea Lord and Chief of the Naval Staff. He was Equerry to HM The Queen from 1968-71. Since retirement, his appointments have included Deputy Lieutenant of Hampshire, Director of the V.T. Group PLC, Director and Senior Military Adviser to Lockheed Martin UK, chairman of the Executive Committee of the RNLI, [1] vice chairman of the British Forces Foundation and chairman of the Council of Management of the White Ensign Association. In addition to chairing the Board of Trustees and Remuneration Committee of the Imperial War Museum, [2] Sir Jock Slater is chairman of its Development Trust, President of the American Air Museum in Britain and a member of the Churchill Museum Appeal Committee.

Sir Jock Slater was first appointed to the Board of the Imperial War Museum in August 1999 and has served one term. He was elected as Chair of the Board by the Trustees in September 2001.
