[edit] oshvision wiki page
It seems that the artical i wrote about 'oshvision' on its wiki page has been deleted, although it was attacked by a wiki vandal, therefore this caused the deletion due to rude comments and language unsuitable for the site. The vandal has now disappeared and now does'nt seem to be bothering my user page anymore either, therefore (as you have admin preferences) it would help if you could unblock/undelete the artical or open it up so that i can repaste the saved artical on my pc to it, this would really help me and my buddies read more on the oshvision info! It is vital is we use the page to interest old oshvision people to read what we have done and doing, i would real appreciate you help to undelete the page.
Many thanks --Oshvision 09:24, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] RE: Disagreement on "Mid-Atlantic States" entry
The discussion on that page has been lengthy, and those holding the POV of the old entry have been unable to support their view. While my revision may not be perfect or the ideal of what should ultimately reside there, what preceded it (and currently resides their thanks to your revert) was totally inaccurate. It is a nebulous topic to begin with, but the staunch resitance to correction by those who seem to have a grip on what's currently there is uncalled for. There is a mountain of evidence that shows the entry should be revised, and there has been little to no attempt on their part to do so. As a result, I have made my own preliminary attempts. Why I should be singled out for blocking when there is no give from the other side is something I would appreciate some explanation for. It's unfortunate that it became heated, but the combined arrogance and ignorance of what I presume are the orginial authors is mind-boggling.
- Alright, I'll stay out of it. Mind you, I did not tell you you'd be blocked, I just reverted you and pointed you to the discussion page, because I didn't see any recent discussions there. It would really help if you would sign your edits with ~~~~, or better yet, create an account and sign your comments with your username, so that it's easier to see that you did indeed attempt some discussion before you made those edits. --JoanneB 09:46, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hi
Hi, JoanneB. Can you help me get Stockport to featured article status?? --Sunholm(talk) 21:51, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
- Hi! Sorry, I don't think I can help you much with that. I'm not a native speaker of English, so I'm not very good at copy editing, and I don't have a lot of experienced with featured articles yet. Aside from that, I have a rather busy time ahead, so I'd rather not commmit to a project like this right now. Sorry! Perhaps someone from the UK would be able to help you, perhaps even someone from the area? --JoanneB 22:00, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Esperanza Council
Hi JoanneB. I just wanted to thank you for all the great work you've done as part of the council. You've really shown newbies like me how to act like a upstanding Esperanzian, and, more importantly, what the spirit of Esperanza is. For that I am very greatful. Yours, The Halo (talk) 09:16, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the tip, Joanne, I've reedited the Moon Landing Hoax page, and don't seem to have destroyed too much this time. Not quite sure what I did wrong, but then, I'm a newbie :)

[edit] Worth Abbey
The guy with the grudge against Worth Abbey seems to have gone, but I notice you replaced the original text, which looks as if it came from an Abbey press release, which I had removed on the grounds it made it harder for me to claim that Wikipedia was the wrong place for his sort of argument.
I told him he was being opposed not because we were associated with the Abbey, but because Wikipedia should contain only encyclopedic content. I absolutely don't care either way (I never even saw the TV programme), but I feel slightly that I've been made into a liar.

- I'm sorry about that. The edit was made by a user who had everything reverted because he was apparently evading a block. It seemed, however, that some of his edits were legitimate and constructive, but apparently that was only on the surface. I've removed most of it now, hope that helped. And again, my apologies! --JoanneB 08:23, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

- Yeah, yeah - I agree with you. :) Surely there were "Greater Serbia" (Serbia(with Vojvodina and Kosovo)+Macedonia+Montenegro+Bosnia and Herzegovina+Croatia to the line Virovitica-Karlovac-Karlobag) and a "Greater Croatia" (Croatia+Bosnia and Herzegovina+Bay of Kotor+Srem+western Vojvodina+Sandzak). However, they are far too insignificant when compared to what our nations did together. :) --HolyRomanEmperor 07:48, 15 June 2006 (UTC) [1]

- Ok. I'll stay out of it then :) I was just very surprised to see a 'speedy close' by someone other than a bureaucrat, and I don't think it sets the right precedent. Perhaps a next time, you could find a bureaucrat to do it, or convince the candidate to withdraw... --JoanneB 19:39, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

Could you translate this article to english? English translation is Russian Dolls (series). I would be very gratefull.

- It's probably a better idea to list it here: Wikipedia:Requests_for_translation#Dutch-to-English. Translating such a rather long article about a topic that I know nothing about is something I rarely do myself (because of the quality that would be compromised, but also time constraints), but people that are interested in doing translations usually keep a close eye on that page. --JoanneB 16:28, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi, look you have replied again to the artical, i have now edited it to make it fit to the oshvision page, and now you tell me just because i used my user page as the editor for it when you would undelete the page instead, because you got that 'artical needs to be unblocked' thing on the oshvision artical page???- please can you unblock/undelete the artical and i will move the stuff i have reedited on the user page to the artical... THANKS --Oshvision 12:57, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
- I'll explain it one more time. These are the rules:
- If a company does not fit the criteria in WP:CORP, it's not notable enough to be the subject of an article in Wikipedia.
- You have a lot more freedom to write about yourself and your activities on your userpage (although you can't use fair use images, like logos, there), but if that's the only thing you use Wikipedia for, your userpage will be deleted as well: Wikipedia is not an advertisement medium!
- Finally, please place new messages at the botom of a page.
- Kind regards, --JoanneB 13:08, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Dutch sentence
Hi, Joanne, we haven't been in touch since you helped me with ergative verbs, but I'm wondering if you could tell me if you agree with this? It doesn't seem quite right to me, but my Dutch is very rusty! Thanks. AnnH ♫ 20:10, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
- Hi! It's hard to translate that sentence, as that sentence is famous for him using it, nothing else, it's not a real expression that has a counterpart in other languages. The current version of the translation is not bad per se, but it misses something, I think. Elsewhere on the net, it's translated as variations on 'I'd rather get (us) blown to pieces'. I think the main thing that should be apparent in the translation (and I'm not sure if that's the case in the current one) is that there's a comparison going on, a decision, and that the outcome is that he'd rather blow up the whole thing than surrender. "To bits and pieces then", while it definitely is a good indicator of the end result ;) , does not convey that comparison so much to me. --JoanneB 09:04, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/V. Alexander Stefan
Hi Joanne,
You've missed some of the other articles that were added later to the AFD nomination. Are you planning to delete them as well seeing as everyone else in the AFD has agreed that they should be deleted on the same grounds or will I have to file a separate AFD and get everyone who's already commented to resubmit their votes? It's going to be a bit troublesome filing a new AFD since the original vanity bio isn't there to provide context.
Thanks, Netsnipe (Talk) 20:48, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Todd Witteles page
Hi Joanne. I am the creator of the Todd Witteles page. When seeing that Todd's name was a dead link from the 2005 WSOP page, I interviewed him and wrote up a Wiki page for him. I see that most of what I was written was cleared because of not citing sources. The source for that information is Todd himself. I am not that familiar with Wikipedia, so how do I cite that? Also, there are two vandals who are repeatedly destroying the page. The worse of the two is at 71.227.246.49, using accounts Toddsego and Neilfrikn. The other is 75.4.207.239, using account Bovine2006. Could you get these two nuisance users blocked from editing? They are here only to vandalize the page. Thanks. --Poker2006 11:36, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- It's probably a good idea for you to read our policy on verifiability and reliable sources. I'm wondering, btw, how you know what accounts are used by what IP? (Oh, and the easiest way to sign your comment is to just use --~~~~) --JoanneB 10:40, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- Joanne, I read those articles and still don't see how I can cite an unprinted source. The source was Todd himself. How do I cite that? BTW I can't say how I know about the IPs, but if you have a Wiki sysop look into it, you will see I am correct. Also, the IPs I mentioned vandalized the page without an account a number of times. Poker2006 11:19, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- I pointed you to those pages because they state what kind of sources can be used for Wikipedia articles. Interviews that you have conducted yourself are not listed there, because they cannot be used. This might sound silly or even stupid, but the main point is that all sources should be available to be checked by others to check your claims, and an interview that you have conducted yourself and that has not been published elsewhere is not accessible to others. I will look into those IPs, but in the mean time, please limit yourself to 'secondary sources', as described on those policy pages. --JoanneB 12:48, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
