[edit] WP:ESP/AC
Hey! Thanks for signing up in Wikipedia:Esperanza's Admin coaching program. Since you've volunteered to help train a user, I've assigned Aaron to you and to your partner, Mailer Diablo. Please make sure to be kind and helpful to your coachee. If you have any questions, let me know. Thanks again! Titoxd(?!? - help us) 23:47, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
- Hi, I'm checking in just to say hello! (Especially since I have no idea what the next step is!) --Aaron 02:15, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] loving a vandal
Okay, JoanneB. I realize that you and the CurpsBot and Alkivar all love me, but you can't keep blocking me as a way of expressing your feelings. Even though you wouldn't be the first chick from the netherlands that has had CapnCrack in her netherregions, it's just not right. A vandal and an administrator. It would never work. So I have to ask you to stop blocking me and stop advancing on me. Krappa 00:57, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
- User has been blocked, see : Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Block of Krappa. - Cheers, Mailer Diablo 01:11, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
-
- Oh, Mailer Diablo, you're so silly. You can block a vandal all you want to, but you can never block JoanneB's undying love for a vandal. It's sad, really. Choctawfarm 18:31, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Shirley Maheu
Maheu's official biography at the Parliamentary website lists Feb 1, 2006 as the date of her death.[1] 70.28.159.194 04:48, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, I'll revert what I reverted to the article. I hope you understand that I did this only out of caution: it wouldn't have been the first time that a politician had been pronounced 'dead' in an article as a 'joke', and since there were no sources for this news given... Thanks for letting me know! --JoanneB 09:07, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
I was not angry at you, or wikipedia, I was mad at the world because I was having a bad day. I hope that I did not offend you. I dont know where you are from but the death of canadian senators happens often (as they serve till age 75) and of the 99 sitting senators, perhaps only one or two (Hugh Segal most likely) can be named by the average canadian, and I'd venture to guess most of the people who know who Segal is dont know he's even in the senate. I was upset because I had found out via Wikipedia's "Canadian Senate" page, and so updated the "Party Standings" page to match. the data I found was on Parliament's website, which is a good place for this information. I dont think the death of a canadian senator's ever been questioned (in fact, every time someone informs us someone is dead via the canadian senate page, I update the party standings page without even checking, something I should not do) but in the future I will include the link when someone dies. Retirements however are recorded on the page itself and I hope I dont need links for that. Pellaken 13:22, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
BTW, the death of canadian senators is almost never reported on by the media, unless that senator is well known for some reason (for example, Mr.Segal) and even then it's usually a short article. Senators here are more similar to the british Lords then the US Senate in that they are relativly powerless. Pellaken 13:26, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User Page award
Congratulations, JoanneB/Archive2006/February! Your user page has been nominated for the Esperanza User Page Award! Five judges will look over your user page and award it 1-10 points in four categories:
- Attractiveness: general layout, considering colour scheme and/or use of tables if applicable
- Usefulness: links to subpages or editing aids, helpful information
- Interesting-ness: quirky, unique, captivating, or funny content
- General niceness: at the judges' discretion
But first, you must be chosen as a finalist. If your user page is chosen as one of the five finalists, you'll have the chance to win an award created just for having a great user page!
More information can be found on this page.

[edit] Admin coaching
Hey JoanneB, I'd like to let you know that your admin in training is leaving Wikipedia because he thinks you and your admin partner have been ignoring him, he doesn't know about what happened...and I don't feel comfortable telling him why you haven't been responding to him. Could you let him know that you didn't mean to ignore him? KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 01:58, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
- Please accept my condolences on your grandmother's passing, I sincerely hope that you are well. I don't really use IRC (though I can revive it if there is a need), the quickest method to reach me would probably be via email. - Mailer Diablo 18:14, 6 February 2006 (UTC)

Can I block it too? ;-) - Just zis Guy, you know? [T]/[C] 13:19, 7 February 2006 (UTC)
- Sure, be my guest ;-) --JoanneB 13:21, 7 February 2006 (UTC)
- A few people round here are mighty fast on the reverts - all but one of my revert attempts after I first spotted him on JzG's page were too late! :-) Good work, well done. --kingboyk 13:26, 7 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Computers!
I'm sorry about that, blame the computer. I will talk to you in IRC, until then, stay well --Ali K 14:42, 7 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Re: Help
Thanks, that was quick. One time I came on here on someone else's account and they had a thing that allowed them to see a small dropdown screen when floating on a link. How do I find that? Mutebutton 15:58, 7 February 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks again. Another question. I've seen pages that are subpages before, but i'm unsure on how to make them. How is that done? Mutebutton 16:37, 7 February 2006 (UTC)
- That's where i've seen them before. Once again, thank you for your help. Is there anything I can assist you with? Also, condolences on your grandmother. Mutebutton 16:46, 7 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks !
Thanks, Joanne ... I completely goofed, and didn't need help after all. Still a clueless newbie :-)) Sandy 23:10, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Admin coaching
Hi JoanneB ... my condolences about your grandmother. I think I'm feeling up to speed again, so I'm ready to start the coaching thing sometime soon if you and Mailer diablo are... --Aaron 22:18, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
- Great! See you soon then! By the way, what is your preferred mode of communication? Talk pages, IRC, e-mail? --JoanneB 18:14, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
- Any of those are fine by me, but I have to admit I'm sort of fond of the Admin coaching page that Sango123 and Banes set up for Gryffindor. --Aaron 03:00, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
- The format looks good, and I think have different subsequent scenarios (that he hasn't explored just yet) lined-up for him too. ;) - Cheers, Mailer Diablo 16:57, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Another Esperanzial note...
Hi again Esperanzians! Well, since our last frolic in the realms of news, the Advisory Council has met twice more (see WP:ESP/ACM2 and WP:ESP/ACM3). As a result, the charter has been ammended twice (see here for details) and all of the shortcuts have been standardised (see the summary for more details). Also of note is the Valentines ball that will take place in the Esperanza IRC channel on the 14th of February (tomorrow). It will start at 6pm UTC and go on until everyone's had enough! I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter".
The other major notice I need to tell you about is the upcoming Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. These will take place from 12:00 UTC on February 20th to 11:59 UTC on February 27th. The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Due to the neutrality precident, I will not vote for anyone.
Yours, as ever, Esperanzially,

Lol you edit conflicted me with that vandal. :) Keep up the good anti-vandal work! Happy Valentines Day! Banez 16:23, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] I'm still here!
Just a quick note to let you know I'm not intentionally ignoring the Admin Coaching page. I didn't have time to respond Sunday night, and when I did have time yesterday, the Wikipedia servers were down. I'll be responding later tonight. See you then! --Aaron 17:40, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Karmafist's Neutral Proposal
I have a request of my fellow candidates, and of the voters -- that all candidates give a vote to every other candidate.
It may seem that this request goes against the idea that leadership and potential leadership of our group should be neutral, a precedent that has been followed since the beginning of Esperanza by JCarriker, but I beg to disagree.
For one, mathematically all votes would be cancelled out, but unlike if we stayed silent, we are showing an affirmation of our support for each other.
To me, that's what Esperanza's about. I've had disagreements with many people in Esperanza, but i'll always support them in some form or another as long as I believe as they'll do the same for me -- as long as we're unified in a belief that kindness can cure the ills of Wikipedia as a whole.
Karmafist 04:08, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
- Wikizach supports this request
- Dakota Kahn supports this request and did this in the last election for maintaining neutrality.
[edit] The Election
It looks like it's gonna be a close one, so if we tie, i'll give you my vote. Hey, it's the least I can do for that advice you gave me on the chocolate. ;-) Karmafist 04:14, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Big Spring, Texas
Thanks for semi-protecting the page. It's been tiresome dealing with the anon individual who insists on adding the blatantly POV essay to the article. All attempts to reason with the individual have been futile. Given the actions of this person (refusing to respect consensus on the talk page, using deceptive edit summaries, is there any recourse that can be taken besides 3RR reports and semiprotection? It's not obvious vandalism, but to me it does seem to be obvious POV-pushing and refusal to work within the guidelines of Wikipedia. OhNoitsJamieTalk 18:31, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
- This is getting to be ridiculous. [2] , [3]. Is an RFC the only way to solve this? OhNoitsJamieTalk 21:50, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
I have discovered that my account "Happyjoe" is blocked from editing due to some sort of misunderstanding over the Big Spring, TX article. Please remove this block so that I may complete necessary editing on other articles. Thank you for your timely assistance in resolving this problem... [edit] Your pupil finally showed up!
Hi JoanneB! I finally posted my responses to the first set of questions. I apologize for taking so long; first Real Life got in the way for a day or two, and then my own perfectionistic procrastination kept causing my to put it off (basically I spent so long ruminating over the questions in my mind in order to "get it right" that I let it get in the way of actually typing out any answers). I finally realized I was making way too much out of it (it's a learning process after all, not a final exam) and made myself sit down and finish it. So when you get a chance, let me know how badly I messed up. ;) Thanks! --Aaron 02:18, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A note from the Admin Coaching coordinator
Hello, coaches. As you can see, there is a significant backlog at the Esperanza Admin Coaching program. Since we do not want users to have to wait forever to get assigned, I'm asking all of you for a status report. If you feel that you are done, that your coachee is not active enough, or that you could handle the extra load from another coachee, please tell me in my talk page as soon as possible. Thanks! [edit] Esperanza Elections
Hello Joanne: Thank you very much for the support on the ongoing Esperanza elections. While it looks like I may not be receiving a post [;)], I would still like to say that I appreciate your vote, and that I hope we all continue working for a better Wikipedia. Thanks, Bratschetalk 19:36, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Hi JoanneB. I have decided to leave Wikipedia for good. Before I go, I wanted to thank you for your support in the Esperanza elections. Moe ε 04:56, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] wanted a tie, a runoff would be fun!
I believe you have done an amazing job on Esperanza and Wikipedia. But I just think that it would be interesting to have a runoff vote. I still think you'll do a great job, I have no doubt about that. I just wanted to see how a tied vote outcome would be. Good luck! --WikieZach| talk 11:47, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for your explanation. It would have helped though, if you had stated that in the edit summary instead of the edit summary you gave, which was a bit confusing. Anyway, thanks for your kind words and confidence in me! --JoanneB 12:29, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
