A New York native, Joan Roney ran naked through the crowd gathered for George W. Bush's Inauguration - the slogan "Hail to the Thief" emblazoned across her bare back. This came after her arrest at the Republican National Convention in 2004 for disorderly conduct while protesting the Presidency. Earlier, she appeared half-naked in Bush's first inaugural parade on January 20, 2001.

An environmental activist, she served as the Development Director for Rainforest Relief from 1999 – 2000 and served on the Rainforest Relief Board of Directors from 2000 – 2004. In addition she is also the founder of Dogwalking for Rainforests.
