[edit] Biography

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Jo is the daughter of Ellen and William Anthony Harvelle, a deceased hunter who was killed by an evil spirit when she was a child. She lives with her mother at the Harvelle’s Roadhouse, which Ellen runs. While working at her mother’s saloon she has met many hunters, many of whom have tried to get into her pants with "pizza, a six-pack, and side one of Zeppelin IV." She has a bit of a rebellious streak, wanting to go out and hunt like her father. This urge is severely repressed by her mother.

She met Sam and Dean when they came looking for Ellen after their father, John, died. Jo and Ellen ended up holding the brothers at gunpoint until they explained their relationship to John. For a while she seemed to have feelings for Dean, but upon finding out that his father was responsible for her own father's death, she sent him away.

After sending Dean and Sam away she wanted to continue hunting, but her mother said not while she lived under her roof. Jo left soon after the ultimatium and sends Ellen postcards every so often. When Sam got possesed by a demon (Meg) and shot Dean in the arm, Jo found Dean and patched him up.

Spoilers end here.
