Thank again for your help to remove the time stamp of the GE building last time. I got quite alot of pictures have the same problem that hesitate my intention to upload them. Would you please teach me how to use the clone stampe tool in photoshop to replace overlapped distraction. I just got back from NYC this week, its urban morphology and cultural dynamics are really impressively, yet academic geography doesn't even has a foothold in this magnificent city. Thanks for your comments. I agree the point is interesting, and perhaps useful in a social consequences section. But social points are difficult to document. The anon who wrote the original paragraph didn't provide a source. If I can find the source that I got my memory from (see my original comment), I'll put a paragraph in. [edit] Re your changes to the L.A. page

I concur that the sentence about mugging was probably an exaggeration, but I am putting back in the other sentence you took out. It sounds like you're not a L.A. resident. If you actually read the L.A. Times every day, you would be familiar with the enormous variety of random crimes and car-related crimes that occur in the City of Los Angeles on a daily basis. There have been two fatal random shootings on the Harbor Freeway in the past three weeks, as well as random thrill killings on the streets of Pacoima and Harbor City during that same period. All these crimes occurred in broad daylight.

If you want an even more comprehensive list of the variety of murders, assaults, and robberies that occur in L.A. every day, look at the Newsroom Web page on the LAPD Web site:[2]

And don't forget to look at the press release archives for past months, too.

Also, if you run a LexisNexis search through past L.A. Times articles you'll notice that the crime rate was actually much higher in 2002.

Firstly let me congratulate you on your speedy response. I've actually yet to see the results of my edit (apart from the pre-save preview) as all Wikipedia will give me is Sorry- we have a problem... The wikimedia web server didn't return any response to your request.

However the intention was not about breaking up anything, but rather about making sure that the contents were shown in a rational place in the article. When I first looked at the article, viewing full screen on a 17" monitor with medium sized font, I couldn't even tell that it had a contents list, and I therefore assumed it was a fairly short and lightweight article. Obviously I was sufficiently motivated to scroll down and find that wasn't true, but other readers may not. The contents list performs an important 'selling' task in giving the reader a quick view of how comprehensive the article is, but only if readers don't have to scroll to see it.

Or to put it another way, here is what the Wikipedia:Manual of Style has to say about the lead section:

The lead section is the section before the first headline. It is shown above the table of contents (for pages with more than three headlines). The appropriate lead length depends on the length of the article, but should be no longer than three paragraphs in any case.

(my emphasis). The lead section before my change had four relatively long paragraphs. Please feel free to change what I have done, but do please consider the need for the contents list to be immediately visible. -- Chris j wood 18:48, 13 May 2005 (UTC)

Ok, I've managed to display the article now, and I see what you mean about the whitespace mismatches. Obviously someone had carefully aligned the contents and the info box, and my change kicked them out of kilter. I've tried again; if you still don't like feel free to revert. You mean you don't recognize the bridge? It is Nijubashi Bridge at the Imperial Palace. It is THE symbol of Tokyo as much as the Eiffel Tower is to Paris, Buckingham Palace is to London. The old Tokyo photo is not a good picture either. All cities have urban sprawl. Nothing unique about that. Photojpn.org 18:43, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Louisville was removed from the list of 20 largest cities in the U.S. on the page United States because it was not one of the 20 largest cities in 2000 (see the official list from the United States Census Bureau). That list lists the 20 largest cities as of the 2000 census. Louisville and Jefferson County were merged into a single government in 2003—in 2000, the population of the city of Louisville was the number now shown on the United States page. I see that, in providing a consistent pixel width for the images worthy of Thoreau, you have grouped them like stamps in a pane. Since you allow that you are a student of urban planning, I can only surmise that you are perhaps not yet entirely finished? In sizing images, it is the nature of the essential interest within the illustration that suggests its finished size. What the hell is your problem? Do you own the article? Do you control the content of what is and what is not to put? Who says you can control of what and what not to put? -This issue has been discussed at length on the United States talk page, to which you have not participated. There are many good reasons not to have the picture of Houston on the article: 1) Houston may be the fourth largest city, but only the tenth largest metro area, while the top three cities are also the top three metro areas, 2) The top three are each considered to be true global cities and each has been very important culturally to the U.S.- Houston does not match these qualities under any sense of the terms, and 3) in the past, as soon as someone puts a fourth pic onto that section it opens the floodgates for others who want to see their own hometown on the article. A "sock puppet" is either a screen name or anonymous user that another, regular user uses to mask what they are doing. No one ever tried to put a picture of Houston on the article until User:UH Collegian became an active wikipedian and he is the only one who has ever argued for its placement on the talk page. So I see you made an accusation about me being a "houstonian" and reverted again. I am not from Houston by the way, but actually in Galveston, Texas. How about you get a life and revert other user's vandalism. I was not trying to vandalise "your" page because I wanted to put in a different picture. Again, you do not own anything on here. Okay, I read the discussion that you asked me to. So you started the quest/demand for removal and most of the posts on there were from you. I also read some of your other posts regarding other topic matters and found that, in my opinion, you think you "own" the article and you seem like a very uptight person. Also, explain your "neat" and "common sense" above. What is my personal opinion of Houston and how would you know? I would never live in Houston!!! I have lived in Houston but moved out of Houston. I don't plan on ever living in Houston (the city) ever again. Just like I would never consider to live or buy a house in New York City (the city you awefully love so dearly), Chicago (ghetto), or Los Angeles (super ghetto). I have been to all these 3 cities before as well. Of course I do like your New York City, don't get me wrong. But I would never want to live in it. I dont like Houston as much as you think I do. I want to put the picture on there because it is the fourth largest city. Houston is important as well, even though you dont think it is from your post on the U.S. talk page. They have the Texas Medical Center, the world renowned medical center of the world, dont you deny that. They have NASA and many other things. Again, I would never live in Houston again, but I dont deny that it is a nice city to visit, to work, to conduct business, etc... Have you been to Houston? Still, I have nothing against you at all and think you have done a great job for the New York City article. Hi, I didn't refer to you edits as vandalism- I reverted the anon's edit before yours at the same time, which was clearly vandalism. I actually liked the photographs on that page, but you must realize that there are thousands of NYC photo galleries online, and the External Links section is generally reserved only for the most important links for NYC information. I do speak with some experience and appreciation for the splendid panoramic views/pics and skyscrapers: I've visited the Big Apple on numerous occasions, including the WTC before its demise. [edit] Met Opera Picture

Everything being talked about in that specific area is music, not contemporary art museums or the village. I've been actively making sure that this picture has stayed there for over 6 months and have not had any problems until now. It is undoubtedly the most famous opera company in the world and deserves a picture on the city's main page. With that said I'm certainly not the one breaching the "assuming good faith". On the other hand I have had revert wars in the past and they are nothing but a pain in the ass. I don't know, I'd like to see it stay in the article - that's all I can say.
