From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hello, welcome to Wikipedia! I noticed you did some good work on billboard, and wanted to just point out a few tips, in case you need anything.

You might want to read over Wikipedia:Policies at some point, as well. I certainly hope to see you around. Keep up the good work!

Best, Meelar 07:12, 8 Jun 2004 (UTC)

No, thank you. That was a really well-written article. Oh, and one more note--when on a talk page, people usually sign their comments: 3 tildes, like this ~~~ will display your username, while 4 tildes adds a timestamp. Happy editing! Meelar 07:31, 8 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Let's see ... Jkeiser 16:43, 8 Jun 2004 (UTC)

After the images were added, I've put up billboard (advertising) as a featured article candidate. Thanks very much for a fascinating read. Meelar 20:55, 12 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Congratulations on billboard. You take the credit on that one. Great work. [[User:Meelar|Meelar (talk)]] 20:42, 21 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Here's a fan of his fruit and vegetables! Thanks for the interest in Monstera deliciosa and I didn't even know about your work on tomato until after I'd written my comments at Talk:Monstera deliciosa. Best wishes, Peter Ellis 05:56, 22 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Haha, actually I hate vegetables (I don't eat them), but since I love pizza and spaghetti and have ketchup on my burgers, I've had this argument about whether a tomato is a fruit or a vegetable for years now. This does get me thinking, though: I should add a blurb about the to-may-to to-mah-to controversy. The tomato, it seems, is constantly picking fights. --Jkeiser 06:43, 22 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Nah, it's the other way around; you had put it in the past tense, I made it present tense. Thanks for expanding the article. Everyking 07:24, 23 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Just wanted to say thank you for your comments about my billboard (advertising) edits. I was a little nervous about diving into a long feature article with all those edits. But decided to follow the 'be bold' guideline and went for it and if a founder of the article likes the edits I guess I must have got something right. Pasd 17:01, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging for Image:Nancy_Carroll.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Nancy_Carroll.jpg. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to indicate why we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies under Wikipedia's fair use guidelines, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. If you want the image to be deleted, tag it as {{db-unksource}}.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Cave-In-Rock.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Cave-In-Rock.png. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator.

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you have questions about copyright tagging of images, post on Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags or User talk:Carnildo/images. 12:03, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Dead Zone - Map.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Dead Zone - Map.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --– Quadell (talk) (random) 20:54, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image tagging for Image:Charles_Nicole.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Charles_Nicole.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

[edit] Image:Burt Rutan.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Burt Rutan.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

Thank you. Chowbok 02:42, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Burt Rutan.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Burt Rutan.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Oden 06:12, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
