Jiro Tamon

Jiro Tamon, ε€šι–€δΊŒιƒŽ, a Lieutenant-General of the Imperial Japanese Army, known for leading many of the operations of the invasion of Manchuria.

He began his career attached to 27th Regiment in 1920, and commanded the Tamon Task Force during Japan's Siberian Expedition during the Russian Civil War, later he was attached to the staff of the Sakhalin Expeditionary Force. He commanded the 2nd Regiment from 1921 to 1922, then was 4th Division Chief of Staff until 1924 when he was given command of 6th Brigade.

Attached to the War College in 1924 he was next Head of the 4th Bureau of the General Staff from 1925 to 1927 when he became Director of the War College then in 1929 Commandant.

From 1930 to 1933, as Lieutenant-General he commanded IJA 2nd Division. While in Manchuria in 1931 he took the lead in the Jiangqiao Campaign, Chinchow Operation, and in overcoming the defense of Harbin, following the Mukden Incident. After he was releived in 1933 he went into reserve, and was retired. He died the next year.
