[edit] User pages and "fair use"

Hi, sorry to bother you, but I just wanted to point out that according to Wikipedia:Fair use#Policy we are not allowed to use unfree (so called "fair use") images on (among other things) user pages (because they are only legal for strictly encyclopedic usage). I'm referring to several of the images on your userpage, like most of the stuff in the "fan of" colum and a few others. Please either remove all such images from your user page, or replace them with free licensed alternatives. That will ensure that you user page won't be a potential legal problem (however unlikely it seems) for the project. Thanks for understanding.

Also a couple of your images like Image:S2005.jpg and Image:Mid-ohio-con1.jpg doesn't have a proper copyright tag, please fix that too, if you are the copyright holder of the images like you seem to indicate you can use either {{GFDL-self}} or one of the suitable creative commons licenses. Thanks. --Sherool (talk) 18:42, 19 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Web-screenshot tag

I've noticed you've uploaded some images tagged with {{web-screenshot}}. This tag is not meant to be used for images that came from Web pages; it's meant to be used for images of Web pages (such as Image:Wikipedia.PNG, for example). I've retagged the images below as having no license information. Please edit the image description pages to include information about the licenses these images are under. —Bkell 23:22, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

  • Image:1024QuinlanVos.jpg
  • Image:FFBox.jpg
  • Image:GhostriderMarvellegends.jpg
Thanks for including some more information about the source of Image:GhostriderMarvellegends.jpg, but we also need some justification for why it is legal for Wikipedia to use this image. Wikipedia cannot use copyrighted images without the permission of the copyright holder, unless some specific conditions for "fair use" are met (please see the fair use article for more information). Look through Wikipedia:Image copyright tags to find an appropriate tag; if you can't find one there, maybe there's one at Wikipedia:Template messages. We also need one of these tags on Image:1024QuinlanVos.jpg. If you believe the use of these images on Wikipedia qualifies as "fair use" under U.S. copyright law, try using the {{fairusein}} tag, like {{fairusein|Ghost Rider}}. If you have any questions, please write a message on my talk page. —Bkell 00:40, 2 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:967c.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:967c.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you. Longhair 12:37, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use images

Per Wikipedia:Fair use criteria, specifically item 9, fair use images are not allowed on user pages. Please remove all fair use images from your user page. Thanks. You have been reminded already, but failed to take action over a three month period. Please take action now or I will be forced to remove them. There are a total of 19 fair use images on your page that must be removed. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Thanks. Weatherman90 01:04, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RE:

I don't know what you meant when you said "What", but I am referring to the 19 images that are used in your userboxes. They are fair use images and are not allowed on user pages per Wikipedia:Fair use criteria, specifically item 9. If you have a more specific question, feel free to ask. Weatherman90 22:10, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

Weatherman90 is quite correct. You are currently rendering a number of copyright-infringing images in your userspace. If you need help determining what images are not usable except with a "fair use" defense in an article, please feel free to ask. Jkelly 23:42, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
Just to let you know, I will be removing them in approx. 24 hours. Weatherman90 03:41, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User:Weatherman90

Please stop targeting one or more user's pages or talk pages for abuse or insults, unwarranted doctoring or blanking. It can be seen as vandalism and may get you blocked from editing Wikipedia. --MJ(|@|C) 13:45, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism

As said above, vandalism on my user page or any other page in wikipedia will not be tolerated. It is wikipedia policy that no fair use images are allowed on user pages, and I acknowledge that you have made good contributions to wikipedia, but this does not make you immune to basic rules. Please do not continue to vandalize my page. Weatherman90 16:11, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RE:

I apologize if you were not one of the vandals, but the reason I accused you is because your account was used to make one of the vandalizations. You might want to see if someone else has access to your user account. As for the user boxes, please remove the fair use images ASAP so I do not have to. Thanks, Weatherman90 01:28, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

Just to let you know, I all fair use images that remained today. Weatherman90 23:42, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Nv8200p talk 20:18, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
