Jimmy Ray
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jimmy Ray (born October 3, 1974) is a pop-rock artist who was born and raised in London, England. He was mostly influenced by the music of Elvis Presley and Tommy Steele. His producer was Simon Fuller, who also produced for The Spice Girls, and also the hit show American Idol.
Jimmy Ray scored a pop hit in both the United Kingdom and the United States with his song "Are You Jimmy Ray?", in 1997 which was a #13 hit in the UK and #8 in the United States. One of the major reasons for this single's success in Britain was his well received performance on The National Lottery. Jimmy Ray released his self titled album in the US on March 10th, 1998, and in the summer of 1998, Jimmy Ray went on a nationwide tour with the highly popular boy band The Backstreet Boys.
He followed up this single in 1998 in the UK with "Goin' to Vegas", but this single failed to get much air play (it was not played on Radio 1 and the only televised performance was on a show called Live and Kicking Friday). It charted, but it did not make the top 40.
According to one of his myspace fan pages, in spring and summer 2006, Jimmy Ray has returned to perform some of his songs live at some small concerts in the Southwestern US.
In 1998 the artist presented talk show host Rosie O'Donnell with a Looney Tunes dogtag. As he gave O'Donnell the gift he pronounced "I brung you a lil Tweety Bird" in his bumbling Cockney accent.
Jimmy Ray has also been said to live in Western London.
