Jimmy Johnson (bassist)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jimmy Johnson is a bass player who can be heard with a very wide range of artists, including Allan Holdsworth and James Taylor, as well as his own work with Flim & the BB's. Johnson has also appeared on keyboardist Derek Sherinian solo albums Inertia (2001) and Blood of the Snake (2006). He also appears on Planet X's MoonBabies (2002) and new Planet X release Quantum scheduled for 2007.
Johnson is from a musical family. His father played bass for the Minnesota Orchestra, his mother was a church organist, and his brother Gordy is also a professional musician. Raised near Wayzata, Minnesota, he played in prominent local bands D.E.B.B. Johnson (where he met Flim and the BB's keyboardist Bill Barber) and Rise and Shine during the early 70's.
Johnson made bass history when, in 1976, he worked with Alembic to create the first 5 string bass with low B string.
