James Bonthrone (born Kinglassie, Fife, 1931) is a former Scottish professional footballer and manager.
Bonthrone's playing career chiefly centred around his time with a successful East Fife team. But also played for Partick Thistle, Dundee, Stirling Albion and Queen of the South.
After his playing career came to an end and after a stint as boss with East Fife, he assisted Eddie Turnbull for many years at Aberdeen before becoming manager in 1971, on Turnbull's return to Hibernian FC.
He managed the Dons from August 1971, before resigning in October 1975, ultimately failing to surpass the dominance of Scottish Football from Celtic at the time.
Latterly he became commercial manager with East Fife before retiring.
