Jimmie's Chicken Shack is an American alternative rock band from Annapolis, Maryland. They emerged through MTV airplay during the final days of the grunge era. The band was discovered in 1994 and subsequently managed by the producer Richard James Burgess.
Jimmie's Chicken Shack has released six albums; Chicken Scratch,Spitburger Lottery, which were combined on the 2for1 Special CD, Giving Something Back, all of which were on the influential regional indie label Fowl Records. JCS then signed with Elton John's label Rocket Records and released Pushing the Salmanilla Envelope and Bring Your Own Stereo this was a troubled time for the band internally and there were several changes of members and also with the major label as they were shunted from Rocket/Island to Rocket/A&M then back to Rocket/Island and after the sale of Polygram to Universal Music Group they were moved onto Island Defjam. After fighting for nearly three years to get released from Island Defjam, they released Re.Present on Koch Records. Prominent singles include "High" and "Dropping Anchor" (both from Pushing...), "Do Right" (from Bring Your Own Stereo), and "Falling Out" (featuring Aaron Lewis of Staind) (from Re.present).
JCS has always been hard to classify. No two records, let alone songs, have sounded the same. Though confusing to the commercial radio world their fans appreciate the band's independent attitude and the varied sounds that each record offers. The band continues to tour as it has for the past 13 years playing the grass roots, high energy shows that built their reputation often playing sets as long as 3 hours.
They are currently at work on a new studio album that should be released sometime this year. The working title is "Making Babies".
