James Joseph Merritt (born December 9, 1943 in Altadena, California) is a former left-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball who had an 11-year career from 1965 to 1975. He played for the Minnesota Twins (1965-1968) and Texas Rangers (1973-1975), both of the American League, and the Cincinnati Reds (1969-1972) of the National League. He won 20 games with the Reds in 1970. He had 932 strikeouts in 1483 innings pitched with 81 wins, 86 losses and an Earned Run Average ERA of 3.65.

He was elected to the National League All-Star team in 1970. He played in 3 World Series games. He appeared in two of these games as a relief pitcher with the Twins in 1965 and once as the starting pitcher for the Reds in 1970.
