James Vincent 'Jim' McCourt was a boxer from Northern Ireland. McCourt won a bronze medal for Ireland in the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo in the Lightweight division. A year later McCourt repeated his bronze medal performance at the European Amateur Boxing Championships in Berlin in the same grade. In 1966, McCourt won a gold medal, representing Northern Ireland, at the Commonwealth Games in Kingston in the Light Welterweight division. Jim was rated number one amateur boxer of the world for 4 years. He fought 16 ABA champions and never lost a bout. Many in Russia believe he was robbed in Berlin and East Germany by the communist regieme of the time.
