Jim Esch

James D. 'Jim' Esch (born December 6, 1975) is a Democratic politician. He ran for congress for Nebraska's 2nd congressional district against Republican incumbent Lee Terry in 2006, ending in defeat.

Esch was born in Omaha, Nebraska, the oldest of six children to Denny Esch and Kathy Good Esch. He attended Creighton Preparatory School and Creighton University, receiving a B.S. in Business Administration in 1998 and a J.D. from the Creighton University School of Law in 2000. A Roman Catholic, Esch has served on the Boards of several Catholic charities, including the Sienna Francis House homeless shelter, Heart Ministry outreach program, and Black Student Catholic Scholarship Fund. Esch is also a member of the Omaha Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee.

Upon graduation from law school, Esch worked for Steier Group, which provides professional development and public relations counsel to nonprofit organizations. From 2003 to 2005, Esch worked for the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce and served as director for the Greater Omaha Economic Development Partnership.

Esch kicked off his campaign for the 2006 election to Congress for Nebraska's 2nd congressional district against Republican incumbent Lee Terry by walking approximately 30 miles across the district in a single day. He made several stops to meet with voters.

Esch pledged not to accept contributions from political action committees. Esch made accountability regarding such things as the war in Iraq and fiscal policies central to his campaign.

Esch's campaign website was awarded the Politics1.com "site of the day" award on January 24, 2006.
