Jim Crockett

James Allen Crockett (1909-1973) was a professional wrestling promoter sometimes known as Jim Crockett, Sr. or to people within the business simply as "Big Jim".

Crockett was born in Bristol, VA, to Charles S. & Josie E. Crockett. He started promoting wrestling cards in 1931 as "Eastern States Championship Wrestling", which was the predecessor to Jim Crockett Promotions. He was a member of the National Wrestling Alliance. He was also a concert promoter and owned a theater and a restaurant.
Crockett died in 1973, at which point control of Jim Crockett Promotions passed over to his son Jim Jr.. JCP held a tag team tournament from 1986 through 1988 in honor of him called the Jim Crockett Sr. Memorial Cup.
