Talk:JIKC

Page nees a rewrite; very POV, not very informative. --Andrew 05:56, Apr 22, 2004 (UTC)

Agree on all points. The point of the article seems to have become bashing JIKC. I've added the NPOV boilerplate for now, and I might attempt to rework things. Hopefully the original authors will return and attempt to correct it themselves.

How about this.. go to Hawaii visit the place yourselves. The article is 100% accurate and up to date. The place is in Chinatown. Then try and win a fist fight with only the lower belt techniques of JIKC.

I actually totally believe you. I don't really have any doubt about that they are just a McDojo. I would love to visit Hawaii again just to tour a bunch of schools like this and fight with them because it would be a cakewalk. I'm not even debating the factualness of anything you said.
What I am pointing out is that Wikipedia requires that you write with a neutral point of view, which is something I can see wrong with the article. I personally prefer keeping the critisms in the article, but they need to be written in NPOV, otherwise it just sounds like some kajukenbo guy just wants to bash school he doesn't like.
Get what I'm saying? I'm not calling you a liar or anything. I'm just saying the article needs to be NPOV. If you need help with this, I'll be glad to do what I can.

Has a former student/instructor of JIKC I have to agree with the article, but I also agree it is not very neutral on its view. Don't know what the state of the tint on the windows at its main dojo in Honolulu's china town has to do with an article describing what JIKC is all about. And to clear something up, there are no grappling techniques taught at any level. They maybe brought up has a novelity, but never has a part of the normal class. Wish it was though. Would have made it more intresting. The main focus of the school has stated in the article is true and has of recent it has become more of a tournament school focusing on USANKF type tournaments. Just needed to add my two cents. Thanks.

I've seen demonstrations of JIKC black belts using judo throws. Limited grappling skills are taught in the Kata, and in self defense applications. Very artistic dance the Kata is.

Masssiveego 02:09, 4 April 2005.

The throws and grappling in the demonstrations were only for show and only during demo's. I visited the dojo in 2003 and they were training mainly for tournaments, USANKF specific. But then again, it has been awhile since I trained with them.

I feel then the demonstations would be a misrepresentation of JIKC then. It would be much better if the demonstations should not include the defender using an judo ankle kick out hip throw, and arm and gi grabs. My opinion is if this is not what JIKC is teach people to do, they shouldn't demonstrate it as JIKC Karate. Like I written before there are dark peeling tinted glass windows at the main Dojo. Very difficult to see in, and seems to be very messy inside.

Cleaning up this page, going into more details about the system itself, and not so much for the argumentative aspect. Also listing some of the more senior sensei of the style. Unabomber 19:30, 10 October 2005 (UTC)

Nov. 7, 2006 My name is Sensei Curtis Boyd from Darlington S.C. You are welcome to visit my dojo. You are welcome to come and fist fight me or my black belts. However, the people in the above that are bashing JIKC karate are of small character. Our organization has produce very strong and respectable black belts and instructors. Karate is not simply about fighting. We teach our students not to conquer others but to conquer the weakness within oneself. Are we the ultimate fighting school? No, that is not what we promote. I have trained at the main dojo in Hawaii, in Alabama, in Charleston, in Goose Creek S.C. and in my dojo in Darlington S.C. and I can tell you I have been to many dojos in the U.S. and our dojos are of a high standing. Souke has taught and trained for 60 years. He is very sick now and still trains. I trained in Hawaii with him last year. Sick, and still very strong. We are far from a McDojo. I am proud to be a link in the JIKC dojos. We are not a part of the kobra do dojo that live is about fighting. However, I can promise you we are trained to never give up! A proud Sensei of JIKC, JICK Darlington S.C. 843-393-0970 www.karatecurtis.com Train hard, Put God First, Smile and Change someone's day, Sensei Curtis

Added three more instructors not listed previously.Karate_D 23:41, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, Karate_D, since I forgot about Lewis Sensei. I'll leave her name up there, since she is a Yondan. Since the listing is for the more senior sensei, though, I removed Soares Sensei and "Rabbit" Sensei from the list. I'll be more than happy to stick their names up there, though, once they hit Yondan, which shouldn't be too much longer for Soares Sensei, if my guess is correct. U238 18:05, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Sounds good to me. Was going to also add Lewis Sensei's son, Matthew(sp?) Lewis, but wasn't sure if his a full time instructor or helps out when he can. He has trained with Hirano Soke for years but not to sure of his rank--Karate_D 23:35, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
