Thanks for uploading Image:BpSheen.png. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

[edit] Help Barbara Roberts Picture

I'm really frustrated with image tags on Wikipedia. Everytime I put up an image, it gets removed and deleted. I can't seem to find anyone to help me.

I posted this Image:Barbararoberts.jpg months ago and it's been removed and will be deleted in 7 days. For the life of me I don't understand the tag issue. Most all of the pictures I post have to do with state politicans. I've tried to find the right tag, but never able to and then the image gets removed and deleted. I appreciate you finding a replacement picture, but that one is hard on the eyes (because of the background). If you could help me I'd apprecaite it. Davidpdx 05:18, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply. I've have tried in the past to contact the SOS office about one of the pictures, but no one got back to me (I can't rememeber which one it was now). What a pain in the butt though. I used to edit quite a bit more often last year, but this year you'll notice it's been significantly less. There are two reasons, one is the edit wars with people and second is the lack of rules being enforced (or in this case as you pointed out over enforced).

I'll definately be edited less and less due to this policy. There are several bios I've written that had the pictures pulled, so it would be nice if someone would find a way to replace them. I kind of doubt I'm going to do it. Thanks again for the reply. Davidpdx 10:58, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

I understand perfectly your frustration, and share it to a great extent. I am sorry we seem poised to lose you as a contributor, and as a valued member of WikiProject Oregon. Frankly, as I have explained on the article page related to this one, I fear I am rapidly approaching the time when I am going to have to withdraw from Wikipedia, too.

I remember all too well when the first Tsunami of "fair use" image purges hit. I had just undertaken inventorying the articles within the scope of the Government & Politics subgroup of the Oregon project, and the wreckage was devastating. Templates which assumed the existence of an image were displaying garbage at the top of articles, and the clean up took days.

It is regrettable that nobody took time to explain to you what was wrong with your uploads, or what to do about it, before you had repeated the error over and over again. And, you're right, it is very unlikely that the images will be replaced in the foreseeable future, although the people executing the purge seem to believe that they are providing incentive for uploads of acceptable images to be increased. By setting the bar of acceptability unreasonably high, and the time involved in replacing a single one so long, their opinion seems to be based on idealistic fantasy.

I'm doing my best, but I cannot keep up with the rapidly growing number of impending deletion tags. It's definitely a recipe for near instant burnout. All I can say is that I'll keep trying for awhile, but it is definitely beginning to feel like a lost cause. "J-M" (Jgilhousen) 06:04, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

I don't blame you for feeling burnt out. I probably won't totally ditch Wikipedia, but the amount of time I have is significantly less. I'm in the process of returning to the US next year with my wife and finding a job so that's going to keep me busy. Thanks for working so hard on the Oregon articles.
