[edit] Copyright of Image:Childhood.jpg

Hi, Jfreyre. Really a nice picture you have uploaded Image:Childhood.jpg. It's really usefull on the Blond article. But, for it be used on Wikipedia, you need set up a copyright tag on the image. I belive you do have the copyrights on that image, so, all you need to do is release it with some free license.

Please, go to the image edit page and add a license note to it. I would suggest using license Creative Commons Attribuions Share-a-like. You can do that by simply putting {{cc-by-sa}} on the image page.

Thanks;

Saludos, Dannycas 01:09, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] History of galicia

[edit] Schism

There is a category (which I belong to) called "Roman Catholic Wikipedians". I was wondering if you'd switch to that one, because in my eyes that is the main Catholic Category. It has dozens of users which just don't appear under the Catholic Wikipedians Category. Chooserr 22:01, 24 December 2005 (UTC)

There isn't that I know of. The point is that there are two making it harder to contact other Catholic Wikipedians...It also would make any Newbie Catholics that stumble upon your page use your version...when there aren't half as many users under that category. Chooserr 22:17, 24 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Valve images

I think your images of valves are a great contribution to the topic of the same name. Would it be possible to create either an animation showing how the handle moves to control the inner elements or a see-through view? Regards --Hooperbloob 09:42, 28 December 2005 (UTC) (a Blender newbie myself)

[edit] Images too bright?

Well, on my screen the old versions were too dark, I could not even see the lettering. The new versions look OK for me. Hum... Perhaps I need a new monitor. 8-) All the best, Jorge Stolfi 01:04, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

It may be a matter of different operating systems. I use Linux on a Pc. Do you use Macintosh, Sun, or some other platform? This used to be a problem when working across platforms (each manufacturer adopted a different standard "gamma", and the differences were substantial). It seems that the .png format solved that problem, but I haven't checked.
Readability of text, symbols, lines, etc. is a matter of brightness contrast only, where the brightness is defined as Y = 0.3*red + 0.6*green + 0.1*blue + 0.05, after taking gamma into account. (The 0.05 is a fudge to account for the fact that "black" is not really black on typical screens.) The part of our brain that recognizes shapes only gets the Y signal; the hue and saturation go to a different part of the brain that "sees" only shapeless colored blobs.
For legibility, what matters most is the ratio Y_background/Y_text rather than the difference. You must choose between light background with dark text (usual, and makes ink cartridges last longer), or the opposite; you cannot get a good result on a background that has both light and dark spots.
Assuming the first choice, the backgound should be kept very light (say at least Y >= 0.6) and the text very dark (say, Y <= 0.3). Thus, for example, blue (Y=0.15) on cyan (Y=0.75) is OK, but magenta (Y=0.45) on green (Y=0.65) is straining, and yellow (Y=0.95) on white (Y=1.05) is impossible to read.
I hope it helps. All the best, Jorge Stolfi 03:37, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image license

Can I ask you to give a source for Image:Otzi.jpg and the reason it is PD? It doesn't look like a typical PD image. Algae 11:39, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

In matter of facts I have to recognise that i'm not used to deal with licence, but this one is an edited printscreen of a tv show, so I think it's fair to use it am i wrong? Jfreyre
Fair use is always tricky. You may be able to use {{Fairusein|Ötzi the Iceman}} but I suggest you first read Wikipedia:Fair use and Wikipedia:Image description page#Fair use rationale. {{PD}} is most certainly wrong, though. Algae 16:23, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:OP sello.gif)

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:OP sello.gif. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that your image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If your image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why your image was deleted. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Dethomas 17:32, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:AerialTramwayCaracas.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:AerialTramwayCaracas.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Dethomas 23:40, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Cumana.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Cumana.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Image legality questions page. Thank you. Shyam (T/C) 15:49, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:CasotaFrean.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:CasotaFrean.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

[edit] Animated chess pieces

Your edit summaries at pawn (chess) are very misleading, and it's rude to call my edits vandalism (with this edit). I'd appreciate a little more honesty and civility from you. Now I am impressed with your animations but they make it very hard to read text beside them. Demonstrating chess moves is better done with static diagrams, in my opinion. --Yath 18:13, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:OP Caracas.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:OP Caracas.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. [edit] Untagged image

An image you uploaded, Image:OP sello2.gif, was tagged with the {{coatofarms}} copyright tag. This tag was deleted because it does not actually specify the copyright status of the image. The image may need a more accurate copyright tag, or it may need to be deleted. If the image portrays a seal or emblem, it should be tagged as {{seal}}. If you have any questions, ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. -- 12:44, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
