[edit] info about Ms. Hemphill's birth year as determined after her death

Sources have in the past differed on Hemphill's birth data, listing various years between 1932 and 1937, because during her life, Hemphill frequently gave historians and journalists varying accounts of her birth information. The final birth year for her headstone and funeral program was ultimately determined to be 1923 during research and discussions with her family after her death; this year was posted the week of her funeral at the bottom of the Jessie Mae Hemphill Foundation website "news" page and the birth year 1923 is also verified by Hemphill's past producer, Dr. David Evans, who had previously believed her birth year to be 1933. — Bebop 00:38, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
