Deletion? I don't mean to speak to the merits of Jesse's accomplishments, but I believe Wikipedia has some fairly strict policies against autobiography. If so, we should see about a speedy AfD and get someone not Jesse to rewrite this. Rob 00:43, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Nominated for a speedy delete. After confirming that it violates Wikipedia's guidelines for verifiability of biographical content, I nominated it for a speedy delete. That said, I think md5deep may be a notable enough piece of software to support some content on him--just not written by him. (ObDisclosure: I've known Jesse for a couple of years now.) There is enough of a claim of notability that it should go through WP:PROD or WP:AFD. Autobiographical articles are highly discouraged, but they are not prohibited (see WP:AUTO). If nominated for deletion, it's autobiographical nature will probably weigh against it, but that is not a speedy criteria. Let me know if you have questions. Thanks. -- JLaTondre 01:26, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the clarification. Although I also think the subject has a valid claim to notability, the WP:AUTO bugs me, so I've prodded it and we'll see where it goes from there. I'm hoping the prod prompts someone else to do a rewrite, or at least provide sources that substantiate WP:N and meet WP:V. (I'm not Rob, either.) 68.183.192.186 05:29, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
Honestly, I wonder if md5deep is more deserving of coverage than Jesse is, much as I hate to say that. To the best of my knowledge, there's a serious dearth of published information on Jesse. Finding published information on his tools is a much easier task, and probably worth doing. I'm not weighing in either as a delete or a keep--as his friend, my objectivity is automatically suspect. I'd say at a minimum that m5deep is worthy of coverage as is, perhaps, some of the papers Jesse has written on forensic analysis. He's not some "former hacker" - he is a quite accomplished computer security expert who graduated from MIT, and has done security work for the Navy and Department of Justice. (ObDisclosure: I know Jesse as well.) B.K. 13:38, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
